Wednesday January 6 2016 the technical staff of the Dutch floorball team disclosed the twenty names of the men who’ll compete in the World Cup Qualification Tournament in February. Among them Sven Landmeter and Leonard Widjaja, both players of Face Off 1.
Heavy training week
Just after Christmas the preliminary selection still had to face a tough training week, in which every day was filled with at least two hours of training in Amersfoort or Utrecht. After this week the technical staff, consisting of Siegfried Aikman (coach) and his assistant Thomas Kasemets, decided on the final selection of twenty players. Sven and Leonard both have been training for years with the Dutch squad, now resulting in another final selection for a tournament.
World Cup qualification in Tallinn
At the end of January the selection will leave for Estonia. In a group with four other countries they’ll battle for qualification for the World Cup floorball in December. The opponents are not the least: Finland (2), Estonia (8), Denmark (12) and Austria (23), in which the number after the country represents the place on the world ranking. The Netherlands is currently at place 28.
Games and more information
The matches will take place from 3-7 February 2016. The numbers one and two of the poule will qualify directly for the World Cup. In addition, the two best numbers three (out of four groups) also advance to the final tournament. More information can be found at the websites of the IFF and NeFUB, but will soon be posted on our website as well.
