What is floorball?
Looking for a fast and engaging teamsport? Then floorball is the perfect sport for you! Floorball, otherwise known as unihockey, lies somewhere between indoor hockey and icehockey. The main difference is that it does not allow for as much stick or body contact. The sport is skill-orientated, promotes high scoring and is designed to limit injuries. The game is very versatile and fast, making it the perfect sport to put your energy in. Floorball is safe, low-cost and easy to learn, and therefore the perfect sport for anyone.
Some fun facts:
Floorball is played by over 2.5 million people in more than fifty countries around the world, including Brazil, India, and New Zealand!
The world’s fastest floorball shot (official) was recorded at an astonishing 191 km/h!
In Sweden and Finland, two of the world’s hockey superpowers, floorball is more popular than hockey.
What is the difference between floorball and unihockey?
Floorball and unihockey are the same sport. The name unihockey was used a lot in the past. Nowadays, it is mainly used in Switzerland and Germany. In the Netherlands we call the sport floorball.
Different variations
Big field: a team consists of five ladies or gents and a keeper. The field is the size of an indoor soccer field.
Small field with keeper (Swiss floorball): a team consists of three gents or ladies and a keeper. The field is about half the size of a big field, but the rules are mostly the same.
Small field without a keeper: a team consists of four field players (ladies, gents or mixed). The field is about half the size of a big field and the rules are adjusted.
